Just What Kind of Ride is the SVR??
This just can’t wait until Thursday. Here’s the ride report for the ride this past Saturday. You can say, the V was put back in the SVR, or it was an Elvis sighting. As we gathered around the parking lot, a “new” rider joined us. It was none other than Vance…. Mr. Name-sake himself.. (NOTE: the SVR was started by Vance… and it stood for Saturday’s Vance Ride). He rolled up to the group as nonchalantly as ever and just greeted us with “good morning”…. It was a Kodak moment…. Everyone’s jaw dropped wide open due to the shock of seeing him back on a bike. As we rolled out, he “huffed and puffed” for a few miles… until his legs came back… on 5 Forks… Squirrel Hunter and I were with him at the back… we called “car back”, went single file and he dropped us!!! He hammered onward… NOTE: he did have a tail wind on 5 Forks. After that, he was in “the mix” the entire ride….
The ride could also be called “Whaley Bagged a Big One”… Whaley, out there for some very serious miles, bagged a full century.. 100.1 miles… and the only reason he did it was for the mental edge of going long before his IM 140.6 distance event in November… Congrats to his support crew , CR1 Shuey and Ryno, leading the way from mile 60 to mile 88…. Whaley had to do the last 12 miles alone, into the wind, uphill both ways... Please note, this "evidence" has been sent to Skunk-Works for verification of the photo... since we have those among us with excellent photo-shop skills...
The ride could have also been called “Now you see him, now you don’t ride”… in reference to TT-Bob logging about 86 miles on a TT bike… and hardly never stopping… He was riding his “Stealth Machine”… quiet and fast…
The ride could have been called “Renato & Eva’s Last Ride”… until they return from Brazil…
The ride could have been called “Griz gets a wake-up call” …as he was hammering up Simms Mill and I was “sticking” with him for a while… he commented that I was riding well… then it hit him… I was riding the same as always…. It was Griz who was suffering… and watching his fitness backslide towards mediocrity…. That’s where I ride…
The ride could have been called “Ride of Fancy Pants”… as one of our regulars has her name on the backside of her riding shorts… I guess it’s to let everyone know who’s going off the front!!!
The ride could have been called “YOUR RIDE”… maybe this coming Saturday, it will???
