Down Rider Part Two

Monday afternoon’s update: From Mr. Cox:

I visited Chad and he gave me the news that they would not be performing surgery. Praise God for another blessing! They will treat him with a back brace only for the present time. Given the fact that his L3 is literally split from top to bottom and the wing type piece is broken and his L4 is compressed upon itself I assumed surgery was a forgone conclusion. He is still in significant pain and appreciates all your prayers.

Rider Information

Thank you all for your prayers regarding Chad. On Saturday the Dr.’s decided to postpone surgery until they had a better look at his back once the swelling had decreased enough to know better how to treat him. He scheduled for an MRI this morning that will hopefully enable the Dr.’s to formulate a clear and confident path for treatment. He is in significant pain and his wife told me that a steady doss of Lortab and Morphine are easing that pain.

Please continue to pray for Chad and his family, thank you for your help!

Saturday Ride Details 2-19-11

Riders,

It’s time to saddle-up your horses and get ready to ride… for Saturday, your trusty steed should either be a road bike or a TT bike… the choice is yours! All I know is I’m going to try to ride in shorts and not tights!!! Because it’s really beginning to feel like Spring Time has sprung… I hear reports of Purple Martins being sited…. And folks riding in short sleeve jerseys… it is time to get our RIDE-ON!!!

Kudos to the SVR (Saturday Vance Velo Riders) for last Saturday…our little group collected and delivered almost $1400 to the friend of Mac’s who has cancer… JOB WELL DONE… the pics above are the delivery of the gift... Mac was moved, so was Mr. NameSake, Ms. Fancy Pants and Ryno... and special thanks to those who dropped money by even if they didn’t ride… and here’s a special SHOUT OUT to Bullet Bob, who is rehabbing some broken bones!! Get well soon so you can ride in the good weather!

Last week, we welcomed new riders from across the region… we hope to do the same this Saturday. We had Belton Bill and Honea Path Greg join us and long-lost Glenn B… and I’m happy to report, my mission was successful last Saturday… Glenn went to the front and I followed his wheel the whole way!!! Nothing like riding in the slipstream when the “front-man” is fighting the wind!!! Truth be told, I may "tri" but I'm a roadie to the core... all I need is a wheel to follow!! Thanks Glenn!

Kudos to more RUNNERS in the group… CowGirl Gina won her age division for the Green Valley 5 mile run… VP Reggie took 3rd place age division for the 10 miler…I saw some awesome picks of JZ, but didn’t get a race report… I can only assume he did well… because he’s really fast on two legs!!!

So, for this weekend, we’re hoping for the best as TT-Bob competes in the Tundra Time Trial in Georgia… and for Racin’ Jason who’ll collect 26.2 miles at the Myrtle Beach Marathon…. the report is that Racin' Jason says he FEELS LIKE A RUNNER.... (how wrong is that???)

If you’re racing, riding, etc… best of luck and send a report… we’re all interested in what YOU are doing!

The ride starts at 0901 from the parking lot of New Spring Church.. route options 45 to 47 miles... If you're new to the group, give a shout out at the start so the old-timers can show you the way.

Here’s an updated email address for Land H… due to some hackers, he’s changed is address… please note new address is land@ironworksmultisport.com. Hope everything's going great and that the training is in full gear!

See ya on the road…. Or at the top of Simms Mill.. yep, that hill is calling my name.. Heck, I may even have to ride back to Macs... we did it all the time last year!

I'll try to post a few pics from last week's ride at Macs... so check the blog later.

Saturday Ride for a Reason

Riders,

Hopefully, EVERYONE is planning to ride this Saturday… it’s gonna be a great day for a ride!!! Remember, at this Saturday’s ride, we’re taking up donations (cash or check – no amount too small) for Ted Terrell. He’s a young (27yrs old) friend of Mac Smith’s who is ill with cancer. And Mac’s holds a special place among us riders… as expressed in the earlier ride announcement. We are all so blessed to be able to physically get out and do something that we love....let's pass some of those blessings on!!
We’ve heard from regional riders who would like to join us this weekend to ride SVR!!! Thanks for a special information blitz posted by Lung Lady Synder!!! So, we’re expecting a huge crowd to be here… and with a group of new riders… We’re asking all the seasoned SVR veterans to keep an eye on the new riders… and show them the way… and share our little piece of riding paradise with them!!! Heck, my plan is to put them on the front and have THEM tow me around!!! They’ll tow me to Timms Mill, down 5 Forks, and on to Mac’s!!! then, to Pendleton and through the rollers as we turn towards home… sounds like the perfect plan to me!
The ride starts at 0901 from the parking lot of New Spring Church in Anderson just off Hwy 81N. Come one, come all.

Thank you!

and

See You Saturday!

Here’s a special message to Lady King… last week, we decided that you need an intervention.
For someone who has such BIG plans later this year… you need to start spending more time on
THE BIKE and not the SPIN BIKE at the Y. Time is slipping away and miles are being wasted.
There is no substitute for real saddle time…. So, you need to join your Florida brothers and sisters on the road….
Heck, we’ll even let you bring your husband!!! So, you in or out???
Props to our local race-runners...who brought home some hardware: Ryno, Kidd-D, Ms. Fancy-Pants,
Stelly-2, and a few others..
Props to AK.. one of our SVR riders who rides for The Tigers... he whipped some Florida Gators on a bike...
and has some impressive photos showing him "spent" towards the end!!
Here’s a follow up to Jeff Breu’s memorial. Please see the message below from his mom.
I'm writing to let you know about Jeff's memorial. Please pass the info. along
to your friends. Go to www.palmettoconservation.org, click Maps and scroll down to
Peak to Prosperity. The people at the organization are wonderful, sincere and
always anxious to help. We've been to the trail several times, and we know Jeff
would really like it - it's peaceful, serene, scenic and, because of the
location, it is used a lot. Thank you for putting us in touch with Palmetto
Conservation.
We hope you're doing well, and thank you for everything you did for Jeff and for
us.
Best regards,

Jeff’s Parents

Ride For a Cause

Riders,

As we all know, Mac Smith's is a beloved institution for all cyclist in the area. How many times have you heard the phrases.... All roads lead to Mac's, I'll meet you at Mac's, I am turning around at Mac's, I need to use the restroom at Mac's, and last but not least all of the infamous tales of the sprint to Mac's! I think we have all been thankful many times for the bathroom, water, and the shade of the porch to refuel for those long rides. There have been many Saturdays that the SVR has taken over the whole parking lot!

Many of you may have seen on the Channel 4 news that Mac Smith's had a benefit for a friend of his suffering from cancer. This young man, Ted, is 26 years old with a wife and a new baby. His wife worked at Mac's, but had to be let go due to the economy. This family has no insurance to help with their mounting medical bills.

I doubt if Mac even knows what a blessing his store is and how much he "gives" to us, so let's show him and "give" back to him!

We would like to take up a collection and deliver it to Mac's on one of our Saturday Velo/Vance Rides this coming Saturday, February 12. You can donate cash or check (make to Ted Terrell). No amount is too small! Prayers for this young family are needed and certainly appreciated!

We are all so blessed to be able to physically get out and do something that we love....let's pass some of those blessings on!!

The ride starts at 0901 from the parking lot of New Spring Church in Anderson just off Hwy 81N. Come one, come all.

Thank you!

and

See You Saturday!
