SVR for 8-11-07
Riders,
Last weekend, Gold Medal Man helped me find my legs… (he was the only one who volunteered to look, THANKS!!) they were stashed in Pendleton behind the “changing station.” This weekend, I think I need to find my head… as I lost it in the heat of the TNR (Tuesday Night Ride)…. Truly, anyone riding in 100+ degree heat needs to get some help… At the end of that “suffer-fest” I was Comfortably Numb…
Hopefully, for this weekend’s SVR (Saturday Velo Ride) at least we'll start out with temps in the 70s!!! That’ll be a “cold snap” compared to our recent heat wave.
So, saddle up and get ready to ride. Our group will meet at the parking lot of New Springs for a departure time of 8AM. Last week, the group was HUGE…. Some 24 riders started with us… And we met the “Wine Tasting Tour Training Group” on the road. It really looked like a pro peleton… (well, it kinda did, right? Props to Jeff for the pic) Can you tell "who's who?" Our group will continue to recognize the neutral zone until Timms Mill Rd, then riders will separate according to individual training needs. The loop is ~42 miles, more or less. We’ll regroup along the way…. Near Mac Smith’s, in P-ton and again near Timms Mill and 5 Forks intersection.
This weekend we’ll miss Griz and Mrs. Griz as they’ll travel to Ohio to bring home the 2 little grizzlies.
One last call for you multi-sport types (you know who you are… swim/bike/run folks) to sign up for the Anderson Tri-America Event. Here are the details from Mrs. Griz.
Direct communication has taken place with the race organizers at Sommers Sports today and they have provided assurance the race is ON in Anderson onSaturday Aug 25th (Kids race and Super Sprint(500m, 9 mile bike, 2mile run) and on Sunday August 26th Short course (1500m swim, 18 mile bike, 5 milerun) and Tri America (1.2mile swim, 36 mile bike, and 9 mile run)
There are few athletes registered and almost no-one from Anderson - bragging rights and hardware are up for grabs. WE can't let others come to our area without "us" defending our home turf? right?
They are also in great need of volunteers. You can make it a family fun day!!!!Registration for the race and/ or submitting your name and requested job can be completed at http://www.sommersports.com/ see the TriAmerica link on the left.
As a reminder, I’ve declared next Saturday as my “non-hammer ride”… Due to an already made commitment, on 8-18-07 I will ride 20 miles (out to Mac’s and back) at a very slow spin… in the small chain ring, in the saddle and taking in plenty of fluids… Someone has labeled this as "Mike’s Pokey Ride"….hmmm, and you are EXACTLY right!!! SO, please come out so you can take a pull at the front and I can conserve EVEN MORE ENERGY.
See you early Saturday…. Come hydrated, fueled and ready to roll....

PS.... the digital pic is actually pro riders in the Tour de Ga... I know you thought is was the "SVR A-train" chugging up Timms Mill...
