Ride for Oct 23
Riders,
Last week we heard stories of yester-year…. Tales of first jobs, grocery store rivals of Winn Dixie vs Bilo, being the first male cashier, and wearing uniform vests… then they progressed to more recent stories of out-of-state marathons, redbook magazines, pretty boys and Vaseline… and you asked how did all this happen?? I’ll blame it on the PPL…. The Pleasant Pace Line…. For me, last Saturday I thought the group stayed together for a long time…that means you can hear bits & pieces of stories from all the riders… and at the end of the ride, you can put them all together to “selectively” remember stuff to bring up the next time you see The Cashier riding his bike!!! This adds a whole new dimension to cycling!!!
For this weekend, the group will gather at the parking lot of New Spring to turn the wheels at 0801…. The route is 47 miles (which includes Simms Mill Rd) and we have a few gathering points along the way… Mac’s, P-ton Square and the end of Simms Mill… so bring the compact crank to climb that “stair-stepper” of a road!!!! So, get some rest, fuel up the body, check your equipment and come ready to ride.
If you’re new to the group, give a shout so some of the older timer can keep an eye on you at the turns….
For some in the group, they’ll be looking for 6+ hours in the saddle… which means triple digit numbers for mileage… for us mere mortals… we’ll take what we want and leave the rest to them!!!!
According to the Tri-Patrol… (aka the folks observing others training or racing)
Props to the locals who conquered Hickory Knob last weekend…. Mike “no training” Whaley found a place on the podium…. no kidding, if he ever shows up for a SVR... we'll need to ask about his training program.... And Mr. Andy completed his FIRST tri…. And we have a few “repeaters” by Mr. Cox, and Mr. Aaron, Ms. Mika, and as I understand, rounding out the Olympic distance included Greg and Chuck & Son… congrats to all.
In the words of a famous American… ho talley!!! Note: one day I'll earn my qualifications as ride leader again... but right now, I'll have to defer to the rider of the SS Minnow!!!
