SVR for 9-29-07

Riders,

Hear ye, Hear ye, let it be known throughout the land that a few of “the fast guys” will not attend the SVR this weekend…. They are off to Greenwood to conquer the SC ½ IronMan on Sunday… that means they’re “couch potatoes” on Saturday. We might have one fast guy to show up and do some intervals... But, I'll have NONE of that nonsense!!!!

For us mere mortals, we’ll meet at New Spring’s parking lot for the regular SVR to keep the tradition alive. We plan on a wheels-up time at 0800. Our route continues to be about 41 miles, give or take…. Clemson is AWAY this weekend, so we expect traffic to be very light.

For those of you who need more that what the SVR can offer, you’re invited to join Barry Knight to ride to Saluda, NC for some “sticky buns.” He’s leaving Wren High School at 0700 for 115 miles of riding and would really like some riders to trade pulls with him. If you’re interested, call him at 844-2326.

Best of luck to Wheel-less Whaley, Brooks, Vance, Ken, and for the relay team of Dave, Bob and the mystery runner.

Good luck to Orbea Bob who’s traveling to whip up on Caesar’s Head…

So, if you’re not competing, riding with Barry or Orbea Bob in the mountains, or if you’re not camping with family and friends, join us for a ride.

ps… Have you signed up for The Ride for Raptors? It’s Oct 13 and start in Pendleton. It’s a great ride with great SAG stations.

9-22-07 Ride

Back to Normal?

Riders, it’s been a long time… vacation and other “events” have prevented my participation in the weekly SVR… but, this Saturday, I’m getting back in the saddle for some LSD… that’s long, slow distance… maybe it’s because of the combination of early sunsets, busy work schedules and the waning season has caused my “slow down”… which is sad because there’s at least one BIG ride left… Ride for Raptors in October (see web link below).

So, this Saturday, September 22 join “us” for THE ride of the week. We’ll join forces at New Spring parking lot for a ride on our regular route of 41 miles. Wheels roll out promptly at 8:00AM. This is a no rider left behind ride… My theme song for this ride is “Take it Easy” by The Eagles…

Over the past 2 months, I’ve succumbed to the temptation of multi-sport. I have tasted the sweet nectar of competition against the clock!!! And I'll go back for more!!! It took more than 3 yrs of riding with tri-guys to be convinced that the swim-bike-run could be fun. However, I’m living proof that combining the BIG 3 is more fun than should be legally allowed!!!! The biggest rush is in transition… going from swim to bike and bike to run… NO KIDDING…

I should have listened to the wise words of The Vortex, Sir Vance Wins-a lot, Russ, Wheel-less Whaley, Griz, TT-Bob, Brooks, Ken, Fred, Richard, even Old Warhorse and others who have told me how much fun “tri-ing” would be… I needed to believe!!! And now I do… I just can’t wait till next year!!!!!

However, there are some old roadie habits that I just can’t seem to break. I’m still addicted to drafting… so, I’m in need of a wheel to follow, won’t it be yours?

Here’s a shout out to our locals that tamed the Bridge to Bridge Ride last weekend in NC… Ryan, Florida Bill, Jeff, Steve, and Kathy… Congratulations on a fine showing!!!!

Here’s another shout for the Pickens Tri folks…Dale, Carol, Lori, Griz, Mrs. Griz and Nancy!!!! Another fine showing by the locals!!!

See ya Saturday, right? After all, Clemson is AWAY!!!! What else is there to do?

Saturdays' Ride while others "Tri" something else

Riders,

This is a call for all riders who are NOT already committed to riding other rides... to show up tomorrow at 0800 at New Spring's Parking Lot for a ride.... I have to confess that I will not be there AGAIN this Saturday... One more confession... all these years, I've been a roadie... several weeks ago, I was tempted by those in the multi-sport discipline to partake of what they do... so, I did it... and it was alot of fun... so, I'm "tri-ing" something for the second time.... at the Pickens YMCA Sprint Event...

There are several others that will join me for the event... and other SVR regulars will head to NC to do the Bridge to Bridge "race"... Others have been sidelined by the Clemson Game...

I'm not sure about the other SVR folks... but, I hope you show up to ride...According to Griz... someone has ridden the SVR every weekend for the past 3 yrs... and this past New Years, he and the Mrs. rode it alone in the rain... hopefully, the tradition of every weekend will STILL LIVE ON...
the new route really takes game traffic out of the picture as reported by riders last weekend.

See ya next Saturday, for sure, eh?

Saturday Ride 8am Newspring 9-8-07

It time to saddle up and ride the SVR. Despite a Clemson Home game @ 1pm we’ll depart from Newspring @ 8am. We’ll change the course slightly to avoid the Clemson Game Day traffic. This is a course we usually ride on Game Day on it’s surprising lightly traveled roads. Some will go around 40 miles but I also hear talk of another group continuing the ride to around 80 miles. Take your pick of distances and no matter your pace this is a no-one gets dropped ride. Come out and enjoy. Mike Madden is expected back next week and you’ll continue to receive the more colorful ride announcements.
