So, maybe this pic is "too" much??? but, I never know who may read the blog.... the pic has been around... but, maybe new to you? All jokes aside.. this guy is a Kona qualifier... so, he's hard core no matter what.....

but for us mere mortals... here are details...

Now is the time to get excited… time for sweet emotion… time to “ride this way”...time to dream-on, dream-on, dream-on until your dreams come true… which is warmer weather… to be delivered on Saturday morning just in time for THE ride of the week… SVR.. Saturday Vance (if he’ll show up) Ride.

Okay, I’ve seen too much of one TV program… but what else is there to do at 8PM? Okay, so Stephen Tyler has make his mark on Rock & Roll... and American Idol...

So, come ready to ride… the group meets in the parking lot of New Spring for a roll-out time of 0901… So pump up the tires, find your helmet, fill your bottles and get some sleep.

The route remains the same… 45 to 47 miles… and lately, we’ve bypassed Simms Mill (or at least I have).

Here are props to the riders last week… They continued their exclusive membership of the Frozen Chozen… props to Chris R, Suzanne, Stelly-1 & Stelly-2, Texting Queen Gina, TT-Bob, Ryno, The Italian Connection Tony & Brian F… sorry if I forget any others… I would offer props to those who ran the 5 K in Greenville last Saturday, BUT you were running hard for only less than 21 minutes…. Which if fast, but not as cold..

Last week it was so cold my eyeballs were frozen… no kidding, when I would blink, it was like covering my eyeballs with a warm blanket…. I found myself shutting my eyes during the ride… NOT SAFE!!

So, come ride…. For the most fun you can have on two wheels powered by 2 legs, 2 lungs and 1 heart…. At 180 beats per minute!!

Jan 22 Ride Details

Riders,

Okay, first things first.. I'm not sure who in our group has a sporty bike and sporty car... but that combination is the BOMB... One thing for sure, this pic was taken in ideal weather conditions... and for January, that's a wish on everyone's list...

It’s time to board the Crazy Train to get some outdoor Saturday morning bike miles. That’s because I can’t get no satisfaction from the indoor spin bike… it might be turning the cranks, but there’s nothing else that is remotely similar to OUTSIDE RIDING!!! Why is it that for spin bike workouts we talk about minutes… and for outdoor rides, we talk about riding for hours or miles??? And outside miles are always better than indoor spin bike time…

For our ride, the weather gurus are calling for dry conditions… I’ll take that any day over ICE… All we have to do is bundle up, or layer up and if it gets warm, all we have to do is peel off… one layer at a time…

So, in celebration of NO snow & ice, join us in the parking lot of New Spring to get your “ride-on” at 0901… the past few weekends of “no riding” has become the “great equalizer”… we’re all in the same boat… I know there’s a small group of you training for runs… long runs… but shouldn’t you enjoy some cross training??? And Saturday morning rides are all about training, right??

The route remains the same... 44 +/- miles... and since some of us haven't been training...we won't talk about time for this ride... it'll be a get'r dun ride for sure...

If you find yourself in sunny Florida… keep riding… If you find yourself racing… race hard… if you find yourself at Dunkin’ Donuts… order a double!!! If you find yourself coaching youth basketball.. have them run extra wind-sprints… those are good for everyone!!!

Otherwise, we’ll see you on the road.

the canceled ride

Riders
Usually after the ride, I'll trade ride reports with a few guys... but for this weekend, it's sad to say there won't be a ride report... maybe an indoor spin bike report which will end with me beating my head against the wall... I can ride 3+ hours outside and love it... but can't seem to handle more than 30 minutes of the evil spin bike....
So here's a funny... after the ride was canceled, I got an email from a fellow rider.. telling me that she'd go to the Y for a workout... then, she asked me if I was a member of the Y... she had never seen me there... OUCH!!! that hurt, so now I have put it on the list to visit the Y more often!!!
For a double-ouch, I got an email late yesterday from Mr. NameSake asking if this was the first time SVR has been canceled... yep, a first... historically riders made the decision to ride or not... rain vs wind vs heat vs Clemson Home Football games... but this time was different... after the recon report stated continue icy conditions... we pulled the plugs... saved it for another day....
I'm off to get the heart rate up... the evil spinbike is calling my name....

To Ride or NOT

Riders,

WHO is the masked man?? Looks like a serious rider... a very cold serious riders!! Best of luck rehabing the knee... and thanks for the pic.. which caused me to re-kindle the BLOG..

Beastie Bob wanted to know if the blog was dead... we'll just have to see if we can breath some life back into it... maybe with some better weather... more riding... the arrival of race reports... things will get back to normal??

WOW, what a difference a week of weather can make… I’m not sure about you, but the white stuff has totally de-railed my efforts to maintain or gain any fitness… related to riding, running or any other activities. Right now, it’s “iffy” for whatever the conditions will be for Saturday… However, if you deem it safe to ride… be careful… one missed ride doesn’t “tank” the season.... (it just feels like it..)

Perhaps it’s time to join the ranks of the indoor riders, spinners, runners & elipiticals… or maybe NOT! riding and running to "nowhere" ain't what I call fun...

If a blast of sunshine melts the road… maybe it’s okay to ride? Historically, the group meets in the parking lot of New Spring with a wheels roll time of 9am…. be careful of black ice... texas tea...

Props to those who rode last Saturday… we had 9 riders who fought the wind.... and one rider was actually blown over by a sudden gust... now, what that rider was doing at the time remains a closely guarded secret!!! lately we’ve been missing TT-Bob, Ryno, Louisville Brian, High Hills, Rocket Man, The Promoter, Mr. NameSake, The Knights of the Round-table, Racing Jason, Lady King and Lung Rider… and a few retired riders... you know who you are!! Of course, there’s more on the list… but these guys really need to be riding!!!
