Ride for Oct 23

Riders,

Last week we heard stories of yester-year…. Tales of first jobs, grocery store rivals of Winn Dixie vs Bilo, being the first male cashier, and wearing uniform vests… then they progressed to more recent stories of out-of-state marathons, redbook magazines, pretty boys and Vaseline… and you asked how did all this happen?? I’ll blame it on the PPL…. The Pleasant Pace Line…. For me, last Saturday I thought the group stayed together for a long time…that means you can hear bits & pieces of stories from all the riders… and at the end of the ride, you can put them all together to “selectively” remember stuff to bring up the next time you see The Cashier riding his bike!!! This adds a whole new dimension to cycling!!!

For this weekend, the group will gather at the parking lot of New Spring to turn the wheels at 0801…. The route is 47 miles (which includes Simms Mill Rd) and we have a few gathering points along the way… Mac’s, P-ton Square and the end of Simms Mill… so bring the compact crank to climb that “stair-stepper” of a road!!!! So, get some rest, fuel up the body, check your equipment and come ready to ride.

If you’re new to the group, give a shout so some of the older timer can keep an eye on you at the turns….

For some in the group, they’ll be looking for 6+ hours in the saddle… which means triple digit numbers for mileage… for us mere mortals… we’ll take what we want and leave the rest to them!!!!

According to the Tri-Patrol… (aka the folks observing others training or racing)

Props to the locals who conquered Hickory Knob last weekend…. Mike “no training” Whaley found a place on the podium…. no kidding, if he ever shows up for a SVR... we'll need to ask about his training program.... And Mr. Andy completed his FIRST tri…. And we have a few “repeaters” by Mr. Cox, and Mr. Aaron, Ms. Mika, and as I understand, rounding out the Olympic distance included Greg and Chuck & Son… congrats to all.

In the words of a famous American… ho talley!!! Note: one day I'll earn my qualifications as ride leader again... but right now, I'll have to defer to the rider of the SS Minnow!!!

Ride for Oct 16

Riders,

For this past week, I did no spins, no rides, no runs… and now this Saturday is going to be as hard as hard can be… kinda like no phone, no lights, no motor-cars, not a single luxury… oops, that Gilligan’s song… but, you’re sure to get a smile… IF YOU RIDE!!! I know Gilligan will be smiling because the end is in sight!!!

Due to my lack of moving the legs… I’ll declare my intentions to start the transition to a “spin & grin” mindset for my Saturday Ride…

For last Saturday, we had a group of SVR riders who agreed that Maw Bridge Road was NOT needed… so, we continued to do what we do every Saturday… it was kinda cool as the RfR riders passed us as they started their ride…

So, here’s the plan… we’re meeting in the parking lot of New Spring for a “turn the wheels” start time of 0801… so, check the bike tonight… air, lube, tube, CO2, and shorts, jersey, base-layer, arm-warmers, helmet, sunnies, and some nutrition… cuz 47 miles ain’t no walk in the park…

Now, this pic is included for our IMFL training brothers... so they can be reminded of the IM phrase which has been learned by those who have gone before them... I tried to find a funny pic... but maybe that's for another post...

If you’re new to the group, give out a shout so we can keep an eye on you at the turns.

And as we begin to roll, Look-Back Scott will entertain us with his latest comedy routine… which starts with the question… Hey big man, wanna ride a hundred?? He is JUST too funny… I'm in for Macs X 2... how about you??? that'll give me 55 miles... sa-weet...

come ready to “get’r dun”

Saturrday Ride and a celeb siting

Riders

WOW, what a ride last weekend!!! It was a great turn out for a great cause... maybe as many as 60+ riders??? I understand that Buddy raised a nice sum of dollars for the cancer ride... and there were door prizes and at the end of the ride, he greeted everyone with a Chick Fil A sandwich, cold drink and a bag of chips... hmm, how can that be repeated for this Saturday???

For this weekend, the route remains the same... but, no tents, no sag, no end of the ride lunch... and no Beastie Bob who joined us all the way from NC last Saturday... now that's SVR going National, right??? Maybe we'll have a celebrity from "yester-year" show up for the ride..... He and his side kick have been spotted on the blog... now, where in the world is skipper??? perhaps he's picked up a different sport?? now if we could find Ginger too... of course Mr. & Mrs. are needed as well as the prof????

http://andersoncyclist.blogspot.com/

this ride will be the usual and customary dose of miles for the legs... and maybe some will get a few more miles by adding "back to Macs" at the end...

However, if you have some climbing legs... and need more miles... 62 or 100 miles... the Ride for Raptors is on Saturday also... starting in downtown P-ton... but for me and others, we don't have "maw bridge road" in our Saturday plans... it's all I can to do to climb Timms Mill, survive Macs the first time and then climb Simms Mill..

Come ready to ride.. the group leaves at 0801 from the parking lot of New Spring...

If you're new to the group, give a shout so we can keep an eye out at the turns... never want to leave a rider behind...

NOW here's some BIG NEWS... Half-Iron Distance Triathlon REV3 is coming to Anderson October 2011... it was just announced... so, get in the water, ride the bike and start the RUN... cuz here it comes... and if you're not into "tri-ing" then volunteering the next best thing!!!! more info to follow... this is a chance for the nation to see what Anderson, SC has to offer multi-sport athletes, so, chat it up and be an Ambassador for our area!!! here's the link
