SVR for 2-2-08

Riders,
Happy February!!! Did you notice the mistake? Our ride is 2-2-08!!!! This is the first ride of the month. That means it's gonna be special. Now that January is history, I start to think that as every day passes, we move closer to the Spring riding season and all the fun that's instore for us. But, to have a great spring, we have to pay our dues now. That means we RIDE. So, we'll meet at New Springs Church parking lot for a roll-out time of 8:59AM sharp. It'll be a little chilly in the beginning, but will warm up to ~60 (per the weather gurus)... That means it could almost be warm enough for Wheel-less to join us, right??? Last week, we welcomed back Mr. Fluor who had taken several months off the bike... so, we're getting new folks all the time. So if you're not bricking at the Y, or running the Tybee Island Marathon, are supporting your kids sports team, join the rest of us who turn the cranks.

The group will stay "together" until Timms Mill, then we should settle into groups of similar goals and speed. Our route remains the same. So, join us for some Saturday morning fun.

Anyone know why this pic is sooo special?? yep, it' s my new ride.. and I'm gonna test it out this Saturday... if you show up for the ride, be ye warned, you'll hear all about this bike!!!

Last Ride for January 2008

Okay, Mother Nature got one on us last weekend with some cold, wet weather that prevented us from riding outside. But, things are starting to look a little different for this Saturday. The latest weather models show the forecast to be partly cloudy, with a 20% chance of the liquid sunshine that cancels my ride. With that in mind, come join us for our weekly ride. We leave at 8:59AM sharp from New Springs Church Parking lot. Dress warm because the start of the ride will be chilly. Hopefully, it'll warm up as the sun comes out and we generate our own heat. Our route remains the same with some available short cuts that will trim off about 4 miles.
If you're tempted to venture out on another course (if there is another route) with promises of Biscuit Barns at the end of the rainbow, you'll have a choice to make. All I can promise is a circular route that has the beginning and the end at the same place.

Once again we'll stay somewhat "together" until about Timms Mill.. then, it's every wheel-sucker on his/her own. We'll regroup at 3 points during the ride.

I can tell the temperature is warming and the weather is going to change and we'll be ready to move out of "base-miles" into some real fun... come log some base miles while the "logging" is still "fun".
Okay, so I ran out of cycling related pic.. so you're going to have to endure some family vacation pic... I can hear the moaning already!!!!! just wait till next week!!! LOL..

PS... Keep an eye out for the announcement of the rescheduled first Tri Club meeting at the Anderson Y. I hear the mission is to grow the interest in triathlons and is intended for everyone regardless of ability... from the newbie beginner to the seasoned IM... and I hear a few retired tri guys will join!!!

Riders,
It's going to be iffy for this weekend's ride. The weather dot com sites are calling for anti-riding conditions. If they are wrong, we'll meet for a roll out time of 8:59AM from New Spring's Parking Lot. We'll take the same route as always. Last weekend, we had a huge group of riders who gathered at the parking lot. I didn't hear a ride report from the Biscuit Barn Bike Tour that took place with The Knights of the Roundtable group. I'm sure they made it there and consumed the required nutrition for the return trip.

The weather just might be mother nature's way of "giving us" the break in the season before things really get cranked up.

So, just who is this??? Perhaps a missing triathlete? Speaking of that, don't forget the announcement about the Tri Club meeting at the YMCA.

See ya on the road (if the weather cooperates)

SVR for 1-12-08

Riders,
Yep, it's that time of the week when I think of Saturday morning!!! I've been looking forward to this all week!!! Once again the group will meet at New Spring parking lot for an on-time depart of 8:59AM. Remember, we moved the time back for Sir Knight (who DID join us last Saturday on a road bike fenders!!!) He just doesn't desire to climb out of the swamp on Shackleburg... we'll grant his wish and continue to leave at 8:59AM. The route remains the same of ~44 miles (+/-).

For me, last weekend was great ride. Here's a highlight (as I recall). You know, Bad Company has a song "Rock and Roll Fantasy." Well, last weekend for me, was a Paceline Fantasy. After regrouping at the top of Timms Mill, a group of 9+ riders settled into a nice paceline... it would stretch and comeback together as we went to Mac's. After crossing Liberty Hwy, the group was working together as a cohesive, well oiled machine. It was smooth and predictable. A perfect Paceline Fantasy... and as we topped the last hill, I was in the sweet spot, last man back. I was towed up the hill, NO JOKE!!! The paceline was like a precision flying unit, It was like I was flying the SLOT position in the Blue Angels. AWESOME!!!
A comment on this pic, take a look at the bottom, notice the lady doing the backstroke? that should give everyone hope that there's more than one way to swim the distance.. now, if only I can find a pic to prove there's another way to RUN!!!! all I can to is put one foot in front of the other... at a very slow pace...comments???

SVR for 1-5-08

Riders,

Is your bike clean? Did you wipe off the grit and dirt from last Saturday's SVR (Saturday Velo Ride)? Props to all the riders who stuck it out for the whole ride!!! I know 2 guys that high tailed it back to the house as more rain fell from the sky. They just didn't "feel it" last Saturday. For now, they shall remain nameless.

This Saturday (1-5-08), we'll gather at New Spring parking lot to roll out at 8:59AM SHARP. We've moved the time back ONE minute to allow the group to start before the Wren Crew has to climb out of the swamp. The route remains the same. The group usually stays together until Timms Mill and then it's every man, woman and child on his own. Some riders will take 2 short cuts and others will add more miles... we have something for everyone.

This is the first ride of the new year, so let's make it count!!!! High numbers, all the way around!!! large number of riders, high RPMs, high ave speed, and high miles, for sure, eh?

The weather dot com site says the high will be 54 and the low around 34... that should be a heatwave compared to today!!!!
Here's well wishes for "Victor" who's sunning in the fun in Florida while Old Man Winter reminds of what absolute zero feels like... (okay, as I recall, absolute zero is the temperature where all molecular motion stops... well, in these temps, there's nothing moving around me!!!!)

See ya on the road,

The Announcer.
