First Ride of the Year

Riders,

Happy New Year.... and there’s no better way to start the New Year than to schedule a ride!!! So, on January 2, 2010.. we’ll have our first ride of the year… We meet in the parking lot of New Spring ready to ride at 8:58AM… that continues to allow 2 minutes of ride creep that is sure to occur.

So, get the warm stuff laid out Friday night so it’s easy to find come ride morning… and join us..

For me, I have a small work related obligation which could prevent my participation.. and since I don’t make my living riding (or swimming or running)… I’ll have to put work ahead of riding this Saturday….

A note about last weekend’s ride… it was good to get out there.. .but, it hurt… I took too much time away from the bike… and now I’m paying for it… so, if you’ve been a slacker (and you know who you are) there’s no time like the present to get back in saddle again…

Post Chirstmas Calorie Burn

Riders,

This announcement comes a few hours early because we all know how busy things get on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day… so, after all the hustle and bustle is over… come join us for a ride….

The last few weeks have allowed many of you the opportunity to build up glycogen stores in the liver… the balance has shifted to more stored energy than spent energy… so, this Saturday is a chance to reverse that trend…

And I’m sure the big guy in the red suit left you some cycling related presents… tights, gloves, stocking hat and other things to keep you warm this winter… AS YOU RIDE.

So, weather permitting… a group of riders will meet at the parking lot of New Spring to turn the cranks and log some miles… ride time is 8:58AM…which allows 2 minutes of ride creep…

A note about last weekend… a small group gathered at the Courthouse steps for the Santa Jog… we had kids as young as 5 yrs old who did the WHOLE THING!!!! It was a joy to see the kids hand out Christmas Cheer to unsuspecting folks… it made my Christmas Season… and after the jog… we refueled at a local diner…. Where the breakfast special included 2 eggs, grits, toast, 3 bacon and coffee for under $4… but, please note they did not have wheat pancakes with sugar free syrup… nor tofu… nor oatmeal… or anything not prepared with butta’…. Yum, yum, yum…

Here's a GET WELL wish for Mr. Webster's support crew... she took him all the way to a gold medal... I'm sure he can nurse her back to health!!! Get Well Soon!!!

Merry Christmas,

NOTE: there is something wrong with my computer or this program.. it won't let me post a pic... and I know you guys are just dying to see these works of art.... I'll work on the problem when I have time... LOL

Ride before Christmas

Riders,

For those of you who aren’t spreading Christmas Cheer in downtown Anderson on the Santa Jog.. .maybe you can spin the wheels on the bike! The usual and customary tradition of riding will carry on… with 2, 4, 6 or more riders… last week, I understand there were 6 brave souls riding SVR.

So, the roll-out time is 9am for those who need to ride…. For me, I’m going to lace up my shoes and do the Santa Jog thing… should be loads of fun, right???

Don’t forget to ask for some warm riding gear from the BIG MAN in RED… because next weekend, there won’t be a run… there won’t be a Christmas Field Trip… there will only be riding!!!! I needs some new tights and gloves that work!!! I'd ask for a new carbon bike, but Boeing has the market cornered building the "dream machine" of an airplane... hello steel lugged frame!!! back to the basic... right Mr. Tony??? (is the Bianchi steel???)

One day we'll return to training... but for now, I'm training by eating.. the Christmas goodies are just too tempting... so, the equation is "input" is greater than "output"... what I need to do is turn up the "heat" to burn some calories... this pic reminds me of warmer days!!!!

12-12-09 Ride

Riders,

Tis the season, eh? I’ve been reminded that the weather outside is frightful… but the fire is so delightful, and since we have no place to go… let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…

NOT!!!!

I wonder who on this list has angered Mother Nature??? Maybe someone got a new bike before Christmas day??? If so, someone should confess the details of the gift… make, model, size, wheels, equipment and any related gear!!!! and I think I know who this is.... so, you better come clean my friend!!!

If for some reason the weather breaks… I’m sure a group of riders will gather at the parking lot of New Spring to rollout at 0900 this Saturday… but, for this weekend, I won't be able to ride... I have a wedding to go to.. and the last time I had a wedding to attend on a Saturday after SVR... I was involved in a minor "mishap"... a small pile up on 5 Forks that caused me to visit the ER!!!! a slight separated shoulder... and a broken finger prevented me from accompanying my wife to a wedding... so, this time, I'll forgo the ride and attend the event... it'll be warmer anyway!!! I wonder who may read this blog for this additional 4-1-1???

So, here's another reason to get back on the bike... sooner rather than later... about 4 weeks ago, a long time cyclist was out for a ride with his friends... he didn't particularly feel well that morning.. but, his commitment to ride was strong... during the ride, he started to feel even worse... being a long time rider, he had a "gauge" for how he was riding.. even on his worst days, he knew where he fit into the "pecking order" with his riding buddies... so, he knew something was REALLY wrong when the "caboose" of the group caught him!!!!

He continued to not feel well... so, he turned towards home... and in the true spirit of riding... one of his wingmen rode with him... he could only ride at a snails pace... and needed to stop.... arriving at the ride start... his wingman took him straight to the hospital... he was having a massive heart attack.. he was transported to another hospital and had emergency cardiac surgery... he had 100% blockage... and he's on his way to recovery!!!

had he not gone for a ride.. he would have puttered around the house... feeling worse... would have laid down for a nap (man's ultimate cure for what ails us)... and have died in his sleep... cycling with his buddies saved his life..

so, you better get on the bike... sooner than you think!!! you better ask Santa for some cold weather riding gear!!!

what else are you asking for from Santa???

But for me, I’m just

“the announcer”

And now a private message for THE swimmer of the group… you’ve returned to 1 out of the 3 events…. Let’s make it 2 out of 3 soon!!! hmm, I wonder who this could be??? any guesses??

Ride for Saturday 12-5-09

Riders,

It appears that the weather will play a significant role in whether or not we get to ride on Saturday… as luck would have it, I have cleared all other obligations for a few hours of “ride time” this Saturday… just to have Mother Nature come a calling with what we needed DURING THE SUMMER… more rain…

If a Christmas Miracle happens… and Mr. Sunshine pops his head out and dries up the skies… some of us will meet in the New Spring Parking lot to ride…. Remember, the official start time has been moved to 0900…

This is the first ride for December… who’s in or out???

So, if you're reading this... you know about my recent trip to Florida... and I thought I'd share my injury photo... this is the only thing that hurt after 140.6.... what I need in the off season is to learn to run... anyone have a suggestion?? I'm all ears... cuz I ain't got any toenails left...

What's Santa bringing you for Christmas???
