11-1-08 Ride

Riders,

Please note.. the ride for this Saturday will start at 9AM... that will allow mother earth to warm up a few more degrees and more importantly, it'll allow Mr. Sunshine to get well above the horizon and cast some rays this way. The time changed, but all the other details remain the same... the group meet at the parking lot of New Spring Church... and ride until there's no more ride left in the legs... for this time of year, that's about 45 miles, eh?

I'll be in absentia for this ride... and hopefully will return the following Saturday...

Here's props and well wishes for our local heroes as they kick it into another gear.... at Beach-2-Battleship, Wheel-less Whaley will conquer his first IRON distance event... TT-Bob will be burning rubber on the bike course as part of a relay team that has HIGH expectations.... and according to other sources.... and Jamie M from Easley and Ken F from Clemson will venture to Panama City Beach to have loads of fun in IMFL 2008... and believe or not, we have one PRO triathlete in the upstate of SC competing in IMFL... Peter K... who has a nice list of honors on the professional circuit.

Ride hard, Ride Long and have some fun..

PS... just for completeness... Iron Distance.. is 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike... followed by 26.2 mile run... all within 17 hours...
Okay, for this pic... I figured this blog site needed somthing to shake it up a bit??? so, just in case anyone checks the blog... I figured you'd want more than bike pics.... but, you never know???

10-25-08

Riders,

get out the cool weather gear… the start of Saturday’s ride is going to be chili, not that hot Mexican salsa chili… we’re taking brrr… chilly… some folks need some distance.. other folks just need to turn the cranks.. for me, I under a time constraint, so I’m only in “it” for an out & back to Mac’s… I have a better offer to spend some time with my lovely wife… so, the SVR group loses…

so, if you’re back from vacationing in Switzerland or you’ve schedule your football practice for Saturday afternoon… or you just need a break away from the 40+ hours of the weekly grind… or if you just want to get back in the saddle after taking several LONG months off… this is the ride for Y-O-U.

We leave from the parking lot at New Spring at 0800 sharp…. and I’m in for about 25 miles… give or take.. and I’m soft-pedaling off the back… other riders taking on the full monty are in it for about 45 miles… so, pick your poison.

see ya Saturday.

The Short Rider (this time)

PS.. there’s NO Clemson nor South Carolina football this weekend…. so, all the other “athletes” are sleeping in… the road is YOURS to claim….

10-18-08 ride

Riders,
It’s time to get back to the basics, that means riding. This weekend will be my first SVR in 3 weeks…. I’ll confess right now, this is gonna hurt…. I’ve done a few spin classes and one out-door 10 mile ride… heck, I have even been spotted doing the two-step shuffle…but, I haven’t done nothing like the SVR… I know others of you out there in cyber-ville have been logging BIG road miles… long swims and effective track workouts (ie 2 mile warm up, 3 miles fast, followed by strides, butt-kickers, etc).

So, if you’ve fallen off the wagon… now is the time to get back on… join us for the SVR this Saturday… we leave the parking lot at New Springs at 0800 sharp… route remains the same… and we’ll get back in plenty of time to watch some football.

10-11-08

Riders,

It’s almost Friday… and the weekend will be here so we can forget our worries. We need a mental break… from work, economy, elections, and various other issues of life. So, pick your activity of choice…. There’s BIG organized ride, Ride for Raptors, on Saturday starting in P-ton… and as usual, the SVR will yield to this local ride which is really a great ride. Information can be found at the following website: http://people.clemson.edu/~sjm/eccc/r4r/

Online registration has closed, but there should be some “same day” registrations.

For my mental break, I’m traveling to Hickory Knob for some S-S-S… that’s splash, spin, sprint (which is more like shuffle)… that makes 2 straight weekends for me missing the SVR… Like General MacArthur said… I will return…. next weekend.

Be safe and ride hard.

First October Ride

Riders,

Everyone looking for the weekend? Everyone ready to hit the road? Everyone ready to earn some dietary credits so the rest of the weekend’s activities can be guilt free? The correct answers are yes, yes and yes… So, one plan would be to “get through” Friday… check you tire pressure and burn some calories. For me, my weekend starts NOW. I’m checking my car tire pressure… getting ready for a quick road trip… and I’m taking my running shoes…

For everyone else, you can meet as a group for THE ride of the week… the SVR… the group meets at New Spring Parking lot to roll out at 0800 sharp. The ride will be 45 miles +/- if the group maintains the same route… now, I’ve heard when I’m away riders will play… play with different routes… different paces… different routines… so, you may do as you please… one day, I’ll be back to get the group back on the straight and narrow.

Have a great weekend.
