SVR for 8-30-08

Riders,
What a weekend to ride? Two rides to choose from?? CR1 Shuey is leading a group out for some BIG climbs… maybe Paris Mt, Caesar's Head, back and forth, to and fro…. And I have to ask, Why? Why? Why?... I guess mostly because THEY can… Details of that ride can be found on the blog… the info was included in previous ride announcements…

For those who won’t be with us because you're running The Midnight Flight… we have the same question… WHY?, WHY? WHY?

For at least 3 of us (me, myself & I), we’ll gather at the parking lot of New Spring church to roll out at 0800 sharp… the route will be the same… heck, if you want or need “some” climbing we’ll include Simms Mill Rd!!! Only speaking for myself, my pace will be moderate… not too hard and not too soft… just right…

Let’s figure out how this weekend’s ride can top the one from last Saturday… that would mean we’d need Votrex to come out of retirement… or The General to show up… we’d need at least 3 wild-life sightings… and Whaley would need to Bag Another Big One???

If you're new to the group, gives us a shout before we rollout so we can be sure to keep you on the route...

Of note, don’t forget the cycling events in Greenville this weekend.

Ride Smart and Stay in the draft.
okay... I know that first pic was BORING... but, if you don't read the blog.. you don't get to look at this eye-candy.....!!!! ENJOY!!!

Just What Kind of Ride is the SVR??

This just can’t wait until Thursday. Here’s the ride report for the ride this past Saturday. You can say, the V was put back in the SVR, or it was an Elvis sighting. As we gathered around the parking lot, a “new” rider joined us. It was none other than Vance…. Mr. Name-sake himself.. (NOTE: the SVR was started by Vance… and it stood for Saturday’s Vance Ride). He rolled up to the group as nonchalantly as ever and just greeted us with “good morning”…. It was a Kodak moment…. Everyone’s jaw dropped wide open due to the shock of seeing him back on a bike. As we rolled out, he “huffed and puffed” for a few miles… until his legs came back… on 5 Forks… Squirrel Hunter and I were with him at the back… we called “car back”, went single file and he dropped us!!! He hammered onward… NOTE: he did have a tail wind on 5 Forks. After that, he was in “the mix” the entire ride….

The ride could also be called “Whaley Bagged a Big One”… Whaley, out there for some very serious miles, bagged a full century.. 100.1 miles… and the only reason he did it was for the mental edge of going long before his IM 140.6 distance event in November… Congrats to his support crew , CR1 Shuey and Ryno, leading the way from mile 60 to mile 88…. Whaley had to do the last 12 miles alone, into the wind, uphill both ways... Please note, this "evidence" has been sent to Skunk-Works for verification of the photo... since we have those among us with excellent photo-shop skills...

The ride could have also been called “Now you see him, now you don’t ride”… in reference to TT-Bob logging about 86 miles on a TT bike… and hardly never stopping… He was riding his “Stealth Machine”… quiet and fast…

The ride could have been called “Renato & Eva’s Last Ride”… until they return from Brazil…

The ride could have been called “Griz gets a wake-up call” …as he was hammering up Simms Mill and I was “sticking” with him for a while… he commented that I was riding well… then it hit him… I was riding the same as always…. It was Griz who was suffering… and watching his fitness backslide towards mediocrity…. That’s where I ride…

The ride could have been called “Ride of Fancy Pants”… as one of our regulars has her name on the backside of her riding shorts… I guess it’s to let everyone know who’s going off the front!!!

The ride could have been called “YOUR RIDE”… maybe this coming Saturday, it will???

Ride for 8-23-08

Riders,

It's time to get some miles in before FOOTBALL gets here!!! Let's plan to "got the distance" this Saturday... We meet at New Spring parking lot and rollout promptly at 8AM. The ride is no less than about 43 miles, and more miles are available.

I'm not sure when this bike goes into production and will readily be available.. but the line forms behind "the godfather." Kinda looks like the bike George Jetson might ride?

Of note, we're looking for Griz. Rumor has it he took his family to up north for some serious hill climbs... then, we got a report coming out of the north Georgia mountains... there are many of us hoping there's not a connection between the two!!

So, are you in or out? What esle is there to do on an early Saturday morning?

See ya Saturday,

here's a new twist on the ride for 8-30-08

Paris Mountain, Caesar's Head, Paris Mountain ride
When: Sat. Aug. 30th, 2008
Where: Meet at 7:00am at NewSpring parking lot (or 5-10 mins earlier).
Leave Anderson by 7:05-7:10, carpool to Cleveland Park in Greenville. Arrive at Cleveland Park
by 7:45 for roll out by 8:00am.
Distance: Probably 75-80 miles
Route: Leave Cleveland Park towards downtown and Main St. Take Main St up to Rutherford Rd,
left onto N. Pleasantburg to Piney Mountain Rd for the first climb over Paris Mtn. Then go
usual route over to Caesar's Head for the 6.2 mile climb to the top. Route then reverses
down CH, back over to PM, and then back down Main St. to CP.

This ride will be excellent training for your fall century, or if it's your first time, you can log it as a 3/4 century that you didn't have to pay an entry fee (of course, you won't be getting a T-shirt though). We will have several re-grouping points along the route, and we stay together for the entire ride (excluding climbs, which are at your own pace). We will also stop for refueling at the convenience store after descending Caesar's Head. Bring money, and at least 2 full bottles of fluids.

If you have any other questions or comments, please drop me a note. If you plan to join in the fun, let me know so I'll know who to expect. Thanks!

CR1 Shuey
PS. If you know others who'd be interested in joining us, please feel free to pass along an invitation to them.

Ride Details for 8-16-08

Riders,

Throw a leg over that steed and let’s turn the cranks, it’s time to ride. I missed last weeks ride, but as I hear, the group sent an expeditionary force to recon Maw Bridge Rd…just how did that happen?? Doesn’t everyone know that Maw Bridge Rd is ONLY for climbers? It only goes up, up, up and that hurts, hurts, hurts! What’s up with a route change? SVR no longer good enough? Just kidding… well sort of kidding…. For this Saturday, we’ll get back to some sense of normalcy, for at least a few miles.

So, the group leaves the parking lot of New Springs at 0800. We rollout on the top of the hour.

See ya at the back of the pack, cuz that’s where I’ll be… for a short while.. then, I’m headed home...

Okay, I have confess, I've never seen a guy running with a wetsuit.. shouldn't he have taken care of that in T1??? note: for the g'ville tri, wetsuits are not allowed... darn...

The thing they say about Triathlon is that nutrition is the 4th discipline... I think this guy is getting an early start!!!
