Ride Announcement for 3-29-08
What's going on this weekend? It's all about riding. Weather permitting (I can't believe I have to say that... but, "they" are calling for showers in the afternoon...so, I think we can get our miles!!!) our group will gather at New Spring parking lot and rollout for 45 miles at 8:59AM this coming Saturday. So, if you're not enjoying the end of an exotic Spring Break vacation, join us for some miles on the two-wheeled self-propelled machine of all time.
Here are a few important announcements:
Next Saturday, the SVR will yield to the JJR ride. The JJR is the ride that "really announces" the coming of the new riding season. You can register at www.active.com or pick up info at LBS.
We still need more volunteers to monitor the bike route of the Anderson Triathlon next Sunday, 4-6-08. So, if you're not going to do the swim/bike/run, come and be part of the festive atmosphere surrounding the first of the upstate YMCA triathlon series. It's shaping up to be a premier event.. Contact Land at landh@andersonareaymca.org
Don't forget to check the new Anderson YMCA tri club website. Our web-master is the talented Wanda and she does a great job!!! And after you look, please join the club. The website is http://andersonytriclub.googlepages.com/
I figure if you're reading the blog.. the announcement should be a little more flavorful, right?
Allow me a few minutes to respond to the Rocketman. He posed a question why we stick to the same route for the SVR? It's not that "we" are creatures of habit, it's that the SVR is a classic!!!
I think Rocketman would ride a different route every weekend.. but, what fun is that?? We aren't tourists, taking in the sights... we ride the same route so we can determine our fitness... changing too many variables won't tell you how you're improving... I mean, the sprint zone to Mac's, the average speed to Pendleton, knowing if you "have it" to take Simms Mill Rd with the BIG BOYS?? how much faster are you on Tree Farm Rd?? and the telltale sign of splitting up the group on Melton... you can't get that anywhere else!!!! (NOTE: Perhaps Wheel-less would be a tourist... after all, he's one of the few who will point out nature stuff on the ride.... turkeys, hedgehogs, etc...)
Like other classics, you don't hear folks wanting to change the ending of great literary works, like _______ (you fill in the blank here)... like Cat in the Hat!!!! you don't find folks who really want those kids to get caught with the mess the Cat in the Hat caused, right??? I consider SVR the same, a classic that will continue throughout time.. As long as YOU want to ride.
So, come ride a classic.
The announcer.
Don't forget the Tuesday night ride has started from the square in Pendleton. 6PM sharp for ~28 miles.
PS... no art work this for this week.....
